Trending for 2024 – Glimpses of the past

Trends come and go but what’s always been true is there’s nothing new under the sun. You’re seeing it in wardrobes on Gen Z these days – looks you sported in the 90s are hot now, whether you embrace it or cringe. The same can be true for interior design trends, and what we’re predicting for 2024 is a throwback to details that add character and charm. Only we’re going much further back than the 1990s. In with the taupe

Out with the white and in with the taupe. A warmer take on the painted cabinets trend, we’re predicting beige and taupe cabinets will continue to pick up steam in 2024. It feels less stark and clinical for those who want something with more personality but aren’t looking for wood. These cabinets pair well with many different shades of granite and quartz and offer a timeless feel.

Building unique storage

Everyone loves a custom built-in and we see these moving up the priority list in remodels and new builds this year. We’re moving away from the plain box construction of the past, honestly, 30 years and diving deeper into built-in character. This look offers more charm a feels less transient than movable shelves and cabinets.

Go big with a mural

Wallpaper has been on the rise for the past several years, but we’re stepping it up a notch with mural wallpaper. This is an excellent addition to any large wall and creates a conversation and focal point in a space. It harkens back to old-world design, and we’re here for the statement it makes today.

Texturize with stone

We’re seeing stone on more and more remodel wish lists, but the costs can be prohibitive. However, faux stone products have come a long way in recent years and can be easily added to a room to give that historic feel many are looking for without any kind of faux feel. Talk about cottage-core.

Go tone-on-tone

Color. We rant about it, we rave about it. And that’s because it’s so important. There hasn’t been a bigger moment for color in the last 15 years than right now. Whether it’s tile and wallpaper in monochrome, or paint and trim in analogous. Going tone-on-tone with color is a bold statement but it’s nothing new, and can be timeless if done right.
