Crazy About Color: How to Use the 2024 Colors of the Year

One of the announcements we look forward to every year are the colors of the year. These colors tend to guide trends, and you see them pop up in unlikely places probably without even realizing it. Think of that famous The Devil Wears Prada speech about cerulean blue. That’s how the colors of the year guide decisions in the world of fashion and design.

Here are the big 3 colors of the year for 2024 and how we would use them.

Sherwin Williams Upward (6239)

Upward is a pretty powder blue that harkens back to the Edwardian and Rococo ages. We love to see this pastel hue not only as an accent but also as a main feature. Its light and airy feel brightens up any space and gives the feeling of comfort and long afternoons in summer. You’re likely to see it in accent pillows, wallpaper, and furniture patterns this year, (we even saw it early this year in Christmas décor!) but don’t be afraid to try it on your walls, doors, and built-ins. It’s a classic that will stand the test of time.

Benjamin Moore Blue Nova (825)

Like its SW counterpart, Blue Nova takes on a retro feel in its richness. It pairs well as a complementary color with its well-known partner, orange. But we also like it in an analogous or monochrome color scheme. This color has popped up in history in the Victorian, Craftsman, and even Midcentury Modern eras. It might be too bold for some, so incorporating it into a pattern is an easy way to refresh a space. But if you’re feeling like embracing color this year (which we encourage!), then surrounding a room in it is a stunning transformation.

Pantone Peach Fuzz (13-1023 TCX)

Pantone may not be an interior design brand but the Pantone color of the year is a well-known driver in all areas of design including fashion and graphic arts. Pantone often has a different take on the color of the year usually inspired but the societal climate. Their moniker for Peach Fuzz is ‘Embrace the Warmth’ and we couldn’t agree more. Incorporate this color in your area rugs, wallpaper, and floral accents. You won’t be disappointed. If you want to get deep with it, we’d love to see an entire home office space in this color. Talk about creative energy!

We hope this list inspires you to embrace color in 2024. We are increasingly seeing beige and greige trend out has we have for the past several years, and these colors of the year serve as a good introduction into diversifying your palette.
