Kitchen Design: Key Elements to Consider

Key Elements to Consider

It’s one thing to decide it’s time for a kitchen redesign. It’s another thing to actually start considering each piece that goes into the puzzle of creating it. When a project is more than just a coat of paint, having an outline of each element you plan to revamp is KEY in ensuring your design is cohesive.

LIGHTING

Often your most talked about selections will be the lighting you choose in your kitchen. The lighting plays a major role in the design style of the space. We often think solely about the pendants that showcase our island as the sole source of lighting, but so much more can be done to highlight a kitchen space with intentional lighting selections. We love to include lighting above and below cabinets, and even inside them, to bring the *hub of the home* to life with light.

CABINETS

Starting with door style options, continuing through paint color selections, and ending with hardware decisions, there are so many ways to accentuate your design style using cabinets. Layering various options, such as wood and color, or color on wood are always beautiful. So much creativity can go into the cabinet selections, but it is vital to understand the style of the home before making these long-term decisions.

COUNTERTOPS

There are so many gorgeous choices to consider with countertops these days, and truly anything goes! Waterfall countertops that continue down the sides of your cabinets create a stunning focal point, and are much easier to clean! Heavily veined quartz pieces are seen more than ever, and are a timeless choice for any home!

BACKSPLASH

The best backsplashes today are those which bring the stone from the countertop up, selections that add in texture, and in 2023, backsplashes that drop a pop color into the room are huge! A properly selected backsplash will tie in seamlessly with the other selections of the home, and won’t confuse the style intention of the kitchen.

FLOORING

A well planned kitchen design will be established from head to toe, ending with your floor selections. Natural elements are taking over! We love stone, brick, reclaimed wood, herringbone tile, or vinyl planks to complete the look of the room. Consider your lifestyle and what works practically, while also maintaining the integrity of the design.

Without even noting elements like sink hardware, appliances, vent hoods, and kitchen layout, there are so many pieces that go into kitchen design. Attempting to tackle the selection process on your own is always an option, but runs the risk of an incohesive design, or a kitchen that does not flow with the rest of the home.

Whether you are local to our design firm in Wisconsin, or far from it, our team of expert designers have various options to serve you when tackling a big project like this in the New Year.
