3 Reasons You Need Renders for Your Renovation

You’ve got big plans for your home renovation or new build, and you’re ready to begin. You’ve probably pulled inspiration photos and maybe even have a floor plan and some line drawing elevations of what your spaces will look like. But do you really have an idea of how your vision will come to life?

Renders help us see how colors and textures will all play off one another in a finished application.

3D renders can take what you’ve put on paper and give it life. As designers, we use rendering technology every day to help our clients visualize their space. We know not everyone can see how a 2D plan will ultimately become their 4D space; renders fill in that gap.

Here are three reasons you need renders for your next renovation:

1. Review the colors and finishes – Choosing colors and finishes for a home is all part of the fun, but even when layering the swatches together, you don’t get a clear picture of how they’ll look on the surfaces of your home. A render can help you see how these colors and tones play off each other in a close-to-realistic setting. If things aren’t jiving it will be obvious, and changes can be made before materials are purchased.

Getting a feel for the flow of a space before installing furniture makes move-in more efficent.

2. Analyze the flow – A standard floor plan has all the measurements your builder needs, and provides a decent idea of how users will circulate through a space. But sometimes you really can’t see it until you’re in it. A 3D rendering is the next best thing. You can see how doorways, windows, built-ins, and furniture will play off each other in a room; where your sightlines will be; and if shifts need to happen before the first nail is hammered. We use this technology all the time to make improvements to floor and furniture plans.

3. Realize the vision – A 3D rendering is as close as you can get to the real thing before it happens. It’s the reason we’ve invested our time and resources into the technology for our clients. You may not even realize all that is possible in your space until it’s shown in a 3D render. We know sometimes our clients have to see it to believe it, and that’s why it’s built into many of our design packages.

If you’re investing in a major renovation or home build, you should be sure everything is what you want before you begin. While renders are not 100 percent fool-proof and each job presents its own set of challenges, they are better than hoping and guessing. Talk to a designer to see how your project can benefit from this technology.
